Uni4U Mentoring
The University of Galway Access Centre run the Uni4U programme in primary schools in Galway City.
This programme strives to create positive experiences, inviting primary school children onto campus
to give them an insight of university life, promoting the value of education, and developing their
interpersonal, academic, and confidence skills. Participants come from 6th class in DEIS primary
schools in the Galway City area. The Uni4U Mentoring Award is available to all students who
participate in mentoring practices as part of the Uni4U Program.
To earn this badge the student must:
• Participate in a minimum of 6 mentoring sessions as part of the Uni4U Program.
• Work with teachers and educational support staff to facilitate activities for assigned student groups.
• Prepare venues and materials, take attendance, usher student groups to different venues on
campus to ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of the programme.
• Provide supervision and ensure safety of large groups of children aged 11-12.
• Work as part of the extended Uni4U team to deliver an excellent and stimulating experience for the
Uni4U students.
