Storytelling with Children in the Community
Students attend interactive workshops wherein they collaborate with a professional storyteller to
co-create and tell original stories, developing key skills that will enable them to create and share
stories with children in a variety of contexts. Students complete one of two streams; stream one
collaborates with various community partners, such as Galway Community Circus and local schools,
to bring their emerging storytelling skills to real audiences. Stream two collaborates with a group to
develop a script with multiple voices, based on a traditional story, and deliver it to a live audience.
Both streams gain practical storytelling experience, develop performance confidence, and reflect on
the power and nuances of ‘how to tell a great story’.
Students gain an appreciation for the important role of storytelling in education and other work with
children.
